    • More on James Sherley

      Wednesday, 27 Jun 2007 - 16:35 GMT

Boston magazine has just come out with a long article about the James Sherley controversy at MIT. The clock is ticking…this week is supposed to be his last week at MIT. He wants a review of the decision to deny him tenure (which he says was due to racism), but MIT says it’s exhausted all reviews and that the decision was fair. Sherley has said he won’t leave.

This article is the most detailed account I’ve seen so far of the Sherley affair and gets into his controversial views about embryonic stem cells, his interactions and clashes with other faculty, and his publication record. It also touches on the tenuring process (how subjective it can be) and past complaints of poor race relations at MIT.
