    • Introducing our new jobs listing on NNB!

As you may have noticed, we have a new feature on Nature Network Boston: a listing of science jobs in Massachusetts. We have about 80 jobs listed—most are in the Boston area, from places like Harvard and MIT and also from industry. We’re working with our colleagues with Naturejobs to bring you these job postings and to provide you with the ability to apply for the jobs online. If you’re looking to hire people, you can also post jobs for free on NNB.

Have a look and let us know how we can improve the jobs section.

On the subject of jobs and careers, Naturejobs has recently published a very practical story about how to do that essential “gut-check”: facing the tough questions of whether you should stay in or leave academic science, and what else you could do instead. Essential reading I think for not just grad students or postdocs, but anyone considering a career change.

          Dear Corie,
as the network does not seem to have a messaging service (or I have not found it, at least) – and looking at the small number of people in the network, and in the 22 groups (a good number of them just with 1 member), why not continue your network in cooperation with our very successful academic professional social network, www.academici.com ? As we are now moving academici to a new technology (to be seen already at www.academici.net) this technology also allows for setting up “shared networks”, which means, you can have you own “nature” or “BNN” network, with your own TOC, Business modell, adverts …, and still use the synergy in linking in with our other networks.
Even before academici had started, we were already in discussions with naturejobs about such a project, but Ben Crowe at the time thought they were too busy with other amendments to the naturejob website to engage in social networking. If you like, let us take the ball again in hands and see where we can go, yours Markus

          Hi Markus,
Thanks for you input. Just to let you and others know, in the next few months, we will be relaunching Nature Network Boston with a new look, improved features and brand new features, like discussion forums. At that time, we’ll also be launching Nature Network, to serve a global audience.

We are very keen to grow the number and size of our groups and we hope and think that we’ll do that with new and better features and with a larger, global audience. A messaging system is on our list of things we’d like to develop for the site. And we’re always on the lookout for other interesting new social networking sites for scientists and are definitely open to working with them. Thanks for checking us out.
