DESCRIPTION:Take on the role of a crime scene investigator in this interact
ive exhibit that immerses visitors in simulated crime scenes and laboratori
es. Based on the hit CBS television franchise CSI\, the exhibit features cu
tting-edge technology straight from the crime lab\, offering a fascinating
look into forensic science and investigative techniques while challenging v
isitors to form their own hypotheses in order to solve a "crime."
\n
\n
\n
Become a part of the CSI team by stepping into a crime scene\, and learn ab
out how evidence is collected. Then\, visit the team's laboratories to exam
ine the evidence — compare bullet casings to those in a database\, or lea
rn how to match a victim's DNA to a sample recovered at the scene. Finally\
, pay a visit to Grissom's office— the workspace of CSI's quirky hero —
to go over the case and form a hypothesis on what really happened back at
 the scene of the crime.
\n
\nNote for Educators: This innovative exhibit de
monstrates how forensic science utilizes scientific inquiry to solve crimes
. Students use the process of scientific inquiry to identify evidence at th
 e crime scene\, analyze evidence in a multidisplinary fashion\, formulate a
hypothesis\, and validate and communicate their results. The investigation
exposes scientific principles underlying various forensic sciences: DNA id
entification\, toxicology analysis\, forensic art\, pathology and anthropol
ogy\, and firearms identification. Finally\, students put advanced informat
ion technology to work to simulate analysis and help check human judgment.
