Description
Science on Screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre continues in November with The Man Who Fell to Earth and guest speaker Robert Weller.
The Man Who Fell to Earth is a daring exploration of science fiction as an art form. The story of an alien on an elaborate rescue mission provides the launching pad for Nicolas Roeg’s visual tour de force, a formally adventurous examination of alienation in contemporary life.
More than just trippy sci-fi, Roeg’s film is a highly provocative allegory which raises myriad issues about the outsider’s experience in modern Western culture. Joining us before the film to discuss some of these issues is Robert P. Weller, professor and chair of the anthropology department at Boston University.
With Science on Screen, the Coolidge presents a feature film or documentary based in science, along with exciting introductions by noted scientists. This monthly series is co-presented by The Museum of Science – Boston and New Scientist magazine.
