Description
While mechanical engineering and applied mechanics are old art and science, dating back to Archimedes and Galileo, they remain young because they are eternal.
In large part, we have applied mechanics to thank for helping us to: predict and understand hurricanes; fight and contain forest fires; and effectively remove oil from natural reservoirs.
Professor Grigory I. Barenblatt will discuss the history of applied mechanics and reveal how the field has and will continue to enable us to tackle some of the world’s most critical problems.
