Description

Jenkins, the Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology and Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at Harvard, will recount the pathways of exploration in the Canadian Arctic archipelago that led to the new discovery of Tiktaalik roseae, an extinct fish that represents the initiation of the transition to land-based vertebrates. The unusual features of this 375 million year old animal reveal the early evolutionary development of limbs from fins, and other transformations that persist with us even today.
