      Recently, I try to measure iron uptake quotas of bacteria and yeast. That means I have to cultivate them in iron free media for a while, than they eager to take up all the iron I give them.
      But to obtain iron free (iron depleted) conditions is much more hassle than preparing “normal” media. Especialy, if you stick to the original recipe.
