Life and Times of a permanently bemused British postdoc in exile.

As I was preparing to move into my new study I came across something that, in another place , I said was in a box of old papers and memorabilia :

Not a summer’s day then, but a bronze one; russet incandescence cooled to gold, a last fling before winter froze out the year.

And another hero of science was there:

While we’re maudlin, in amongst the reprints I found the April 2002 issue of nature structural biology (as it was then), which contains Max Perutz’s obituary . Immediately following that is a paper from some of the ‘sons of structural biology’, one of whom might be familiar to this readership.

It’s all open access now: go look it up. One day I’ll tell you what’s interesting about that paper, how I almost lost my no-claims bonus in the writing of it, and what happened next.

That’s a beautiful story, Richard. When will you tell us the rest?
