• City modelling on Second Nature

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to CASA, the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at UCL, who have this week started colonising the sky on Second Nature.

Led by Dr Andrew Hudson-Smith, AKA Smithee Bertrand, they are experimenting with Second Life as an environment for city modelling, and I understand they are starting with Central London. Their first object is up, a geographical representation of part of the London Underground as seen in the picture above, and has been followed by others, including two giant “Step Inside Urban Spheres” in the sky and a range of 3D maps.

This is just the very beginning – you can read more about this and everything else they’re doing at their blog, Digital Urban or just drop into Second Nature and see for yourself.

This has possibilities. Their panaromaic spheres are cool.
Here’s a SLurl that works better.

Thanks, Andrew – edited the post to put the improved SLurl in. You might think I’d learn how to give proper SLurls one day, wouldn’t you…
