I sent Bora on his way this morning after an exciting and intensive weekend spent talking, walking, playing with the animals, talking, talking, drinking industrial quantities of coffee into the small hours (while talking), synchro-blogging, walking and talking some more. I can pronounce that the First Seaside Blogging Unconference Weekend hosted by Nature Network Bloggers (Cromer Division) a great success (especially the frequent field excursions). I learned many things, especially about myself. Last week I was a Nature editor who happened to have a blog. Now I’m a blogger who happens to be a Nature editor. And Mrs Gee is reassured, slightly, that I am not unique – other people in the world exist who, when in the same room as a wired laptop, feel their fingers itch uncontrollably…

The End Of The Pier Show
Described by Carl Zimmer as "one of my favorite wastes of time", The End Of The Pier Show is the online scratching post of Nature Editor, Norfolk resident and sometime "garage-band monster" Henry Gee and his amazing unicycling girrafes.

I think we should put the First Seaside Blogging Unconference on our CVs – it’s worth it: most definitely an important event in our careers.
Thank you so much for your hospitality – it was the most wonderful weekend with you and your lovely family (and yes, the entire zoo chez Gee).
”Last week I was a Nature editor who happened to have a blog. Now I’m a blogger who happens to be a Nature editor.”
When you say now, Henry, do you mean at this moment in time, or now and for the foreseeable future? Do you flip between the two states? If so, tell the quantum cat people, they might want to come and study you.
Glad you enjoyed your bloggers’ summit. Cromer sounds a lot nicer than King’s Cross for the purpose. (Sorry for being grumpy earlier this morning, you caught me at “one of those bad times”).
Let’s face it Henry. You are indescribable; although many have tried, and with impressively colourful turns of phrase too.
@ Maxine – Ego Te Absolvo. And I Was Born to Blog, Baby. (tho’ right now I am ploughing through a drift of manuscripts).
@ Chris – I believe it was once a Dr C Surridge of Dulwich who described me as (and I quote) ‘An Enforcer For The Yakuza’. I’m quite proud of that, actually.
Ah, ‘An Enforcer For The Yakuza’, one of Viggo’s (aka Aragorn) early roles.
