Some blues legends are notorious for dying young (whereas others are remarkable for their longevity). Into the former category, very sadly, falls guitar genius Jeff Healey, who has died, aged 41. I well remember hearing the explosive riffs of the title track of his sensational debut album, See The Light.
What took the life of Mr Healey was not the canonical women’n’whiskey, or even heroin—but retinoblastoma. This claimed his sight as a child, and evidently came back to get the rest of him. I’m sad that I never got a chance to see Jeff Healey play when he was alive. Taste shall prevent me from saying that he never saw me, either. (Oh, damn…)
Damn.
Next pay, I’m off to the iTunes music store.
