• The End Of The Pier Show

Described by Carl Zimmer as "one of my favorite wastes of time", The End Of The Pier Show is the online scratching post of Nature Editor, Norfolk resident and sometime "garage-band monster" Henry Gee and his amazing unicycling girrafes.

There are thousands of academic and scholarly journals out there, with more being launched every minute. Science writers are always on the lookout for more, no matter how obscure, for some gem that everyone else will have missed.

The Nature Publishing Group publishes quite a few academic journals, and I well remember a few years ago leafing through one of them to see if anything stood out.

Even now, new journals continue to hit my desk. I was most taken with this one, which made quite an impression by virtue of its exuberance, its raw power, and its punctuality -

That, and the sheer wallop of its pagination (count ‘em); the fact that the editor claims to be Ted Nugent – and the inclusion of a truly fabulous ‘lifestyle supplement’ which taste (and potential libel) prevents my airing. Rock, and moreover, roll.
