As one of the Nature team is encouraging us to provide hand-drawn maps I was hoping to provide a graphic illustration of the scientific hotbed that is Clegg Towers. But as this would largely be ‘here is my desk’ and ‘here is my computer’, added to which my drawing skills were arrested at age 9, I haven’t.
However, another Nature stalwart has recently provided a shot of some of the fauna in his garden, so I thought rather than draw a map of the science here, I would shove in a pic of some of our local scientific finds.

We found these in our garden a while ago. I don’t think they’re fresh. Of course, if they were it would be a discovery to put the coelocanth in the shade, but given that
a) They appear to be made of solid chalk and
b) If they were fresh we’d be under water
chances are they aren’t. Given we’re half way up the Wiltshire downs, if we were under water, then global warming is even worse than we thought. And I’d be typing this in a wetsuit. Not a pleasant image for a Friday morning.
Look like Cretaceous ammonites to me, Brian. I’d say more but someone has snarfled my copy of British Mesozoic Fossils.
Henry, in case you need something for Crimewatch (I nearly typed Police 5 – shows my age), here is a reconstruction of the Snarfler at work:

… you can tell it’s a Friday, can’t you?
Oh, and happy birthday USA. I’m sure I can speak for all of us over here in saying we share in celebrating your independence.
Yes, always a nice and quiet day for us in the Nature London office!
Yes, that’s them. Dastardly.
