I gather that the Catholic church has come up with seven new deadly sins. This makes a lot of sense. It’s not that the old ones have gone away, but the world changes and any religion that mires its rules and regulations entirely in the past is a danger to humanity. (I won’t get on to those who totally misinterpret scripture. When he wrote that you shouldn’t take blood, Christian Scientists, he didn’t mean you can’t have transfusions.)
However I was genuinely shocked by a couple of the Vatican’s new ‘go to hell, go directly to hell’ sins. I don’t mind making sins out of drug trafficking, or even environmental pollution (though Henry should be worried about his skip). But two of them were ‘bioethical violations’ such as birth control, and ‘morally dubious experiments’ like stem cell research. Nice one, Vatican. Now when right wing politicians mutter about ‘damned scientists’ they will be speaking literally.
21st-Century sins? Don’t get me started.
I could include a rant about how they’re all covered by the ‘original’ 7, but am suffering from sloth.
Isn’t Pride one of the original seven?
