Some of you may know me from the blog cancerevo that I used to keep in blogger. Then again some of you may not and a little introduction to this space would be appropriate.

I have, for a long time, been fascinated by evolution. A year and a half ago I was given the opportunity to study evolution, theoretically, in a ecosystem that many people would not immediately identify as a place in which evolution happens: cancer. Indeed evolution takes place in tumours. As a result of mutations, tissues become small scale ecosystems in which a variety of cell types compete for the existing and scarce resources (oxygen, nutrients, space). The fitter cells produce more offspring and evolution ensues.

In this blog I would like to network with people interested in evolution and how this affects diseases such as cancer. I would also like to use it to discuss about recent developments in cancer research from the point of view of a theoretician. Finally, I would also like to mention some of my research as it happens: on a daily (let’s be realistic: weekly) basis.
