    • Dow's novel element now has counterparts - Many of them!

The Dow Chemical Company has launched an advertising campaign called the Human element – Hn. One of its TV advertisement can be found here. Interestingly the number of this element changes from time to time, and below the element name there is a number 7E+09 which I guess is the current number of ‘atoms of this element’ on the planet.

Today I noticed on the message board of my dorm building some Dow’s recuitment handouts. Again they put the novel Hn element explicitly (numbered 12, for it is carbon-based?), accompanied by a bundle of other new elements, however, which forms a periodic table of the ‘elements of success’. Some examples: Be for belief, Fl for flexibility, Qu for quality, Tw for teamwork, etc. Some photos follow (click to enlarge).

I do so like Periodic Table variations. At University of Natal (Durban) we had periodic tables of the fruit and vegetables.

Have you come across this website? The Michael Laing of the Laing version, was “my” inorganic chemistry lecturer.

My favourite though is the “Spiral Periodic Table” by Prof. Thoedor Benfey.

There’s no ‘I’ in team, but there is a ‘me’ if you look hard enough.

We work as a team, which means we do things my way.

I do so loathe this corporate crap.

Perhaps we could use it to play Buzzword Bingo?

I wrote a perl script once, and stuck it on an internal website, that allowed fellow labrats to download fresh ‘bullshit bingo’ cards as often as they liked. . .
